Site performance - caching & aggregate CSS enabled

FYI we've enabled the following features to improve site performance. These options can help reduce both the size and number of requests made to our site, and can reduce the server load, the bandwidth used, and the average page loading time. Except for faster page load times, these improvements should be transparent to members, but do drop us a note if you notice something not working correctly.

Details follow for techies:

  • Cache
Enabling the cache will offer a significant performance boost by storing and sending compressed cached pages requested by anonymous users.

  • Aggregate and compress CSS files
Different CSS files are called together to reduce HTTP requests to the page, which can otherwise increase the load time of each page if called separately.

Note that some pages, like Rides and Videos, have content that is served from outside of our site (e.g., YouTube, ImageShack, etc), so those page load times will still be dependent on those 3rd party services.
