Recovery Gear Questions

I'm taking my Jeep wheeling for the first time next weekend. I'm on quadratec.com checking out the tow straps. The price differences are huge. As far as the ones with looped ends, can there really be that much difference in quality from one to the next? A 30x3 strap from Warn is $61.99 but the same size strap from Keeper? is only $39.99. Is the extra 50% just so I can look at the other guys in the club and say "My strap is a Warn!" LOL?

Also, has anyone used Rampage D-ring shackles? They are a bolt-on shackle that mounts in place of your factory tow hooks. I can't afford to upgrade my front bumper yet, so I was looking at these as a possible option to a more secure recovery point instead of just a hook. Any thoughts?

when it comes to rigging,

when it comes to rigging, all I can say is make sure its not offshore (Chinese).

chain, shackles, hard rigging should be of that from a reputable manufacturer. Crosby and Columbus Mckinnon are a few.

Soft rigging is no different. I showed up at a jamboree many years ago with some nice twin path continuous loops, a tad bit more then one would need for jeep recovery.

If your interested, i would be happy to get some links for you to look at some other options.

A important note, soft rigging is either 4 to 1 or 5 to 1 safety factor for working load limit depending on the industry it is used.

make sure the ratings for the strap that are listed are wll not ultimate load (breaking). You definitely want a 4 to 1 safety factor for vehicle recovery.

i've been wheeling for a few

i've been wheeling for a few years now and i'm a mechanic in the military. when is comes to recovery the big thing you want to look at is what your recovery strap, chain, rope, etc... is rated at. my suggestion is to go with master pull.
I don't need no instructions to know how to ROCK!!!!!!!!
