Economic Woes!! - Reducing Costs

I like to start by saying "Hey!" to every real Jeeper out there reading this. I really look forward to every Jambo I get to attend. Unfortunately it's nowhere near the amount I'd like. Which brings me to my subject. I have a hard time coming up with all the money for these events. I'm sure I'm not the only one in this situation. First there is the entry fee, then all the little things that really add up, quick. For me, I always camp. I pull a little pop-up behind my Jeep to all my overnight events. So there is camping costs. Of course food, and then GAS!! Sure, it is coming down, but still. Then there are Jeep parts to buy...either before, during or after the event. I talk to a lot of peolple around and that's the biggest hurdle I hear. "COSTS"
So my thought is this...."How can we reduce the JJ costs??" I was really happy when the costs came down a bit with the "just trails" catagory. But what else can be down? I'd like to hear from anybody and everybody on suggestions. Smiling

Good point, would be

Good point, would be interesting to hear what others are doing and how many are car/Jeeppooling to events or other ways to cut costs... anything from sharing hotels to going in on group food/gear purchases for trips at big lot places like BJs and Sam's Club?

BTW we also have a poll up here related to gas prices.

Cutting Costs

I was thinking along the lines of what SFWDA does at their events. They usually have a field designated for free camping. That would save plenty. Any ideas on this??? I've been talking on several forums lately and have heard a mix about the registration fees. Some don't mind paying $195/$250, others say thats just too much and thats why they don't go. I really don't mind the fee, as I see the value for my experience, but it sure takes all I can do to come up with fees/camping/gas/food & spare change for a broken part!! I just wish the fee could come down to $150. or even $175. Any thoughts??

Cost of doing business

The cost isn't a huge factor for us, 2009 will be our first JJ. I have already started to save now for the JJ that we will participate in Sept. The JJ staff has trail guides, insurance, etc. I don't see the fees going down anytime soon. By saving now you should have no problem once you near your JJ. I still see folks buying smokes and or lotto & scratch off tickets so it's not that bad out there!
